History of Badrinath 


The Badrinath shrine is full of legends of mythology. Accordingly to the Skanda Purana many shrines of earth, heaven and hell, but there has not been any equal to Badrinath shrine, nor will be. According to legend, when the Ganga was requested to descend to earth to help suffering humankind, the earth was unable to resist the force of its descent. Thus, the Ganga was split into twelve holy channels and Alaknanda was one of those who later became the abode of Lord Vishnu or Badrinath.

The Char Dham consists of the four main shrines of Yamunotri,Gangotri,Badrinath & Kedarnath.Badrinath is one of the most sacred shrine of pilgrimage Garhwal Himalaya between all these sanctuarys. Badrinath is situated in the middle of the magnificent backdrop of Neelkanth mountains in the twin mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan, on the left bank of river Alaknanda. 

According to Hindu Shastras, no pilgrimage is complete unless a visit Badrinath the place of Vishnu. Dwarka and Puri is one of the four holiest places in India and is a living faith, yet to visit the Hindu shrine of Badrinath once in our lifetime. Once, this place was layered with badris or wild berries and Hance aka Badrivan. This temple is closed during the winter season and is open from May to November. There are numerous hostels and dharamshalas Badrinath to serve the pilgrims and travelers.In summer,the temperature is very cold during the day and cold at night and in winter, it is covered by snow. The best season to visit Badrinath is between May and November. Hindi, Garhwali and English are the main languages ​​spoken here.


Badrinath Temple

The Badrinath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is situated on the banks of Alaknanda river and belongs to the Vedic times. It is believed that this temple was built by Adi Guru Shankaracharya, the philosopher and saint of the eighth century and has been renovated several times. The temple is built in the shape of a cone with a small cupola of a gilt bull and spire. The temple is small and brightly colored green, blue, pink, yellow, white, silver and red. Its colorful 'Singh Dwara' gives a new and enlightened look. The temple is separated into three parts: the garbha griha or sanctum sanctorum; the darshan mandap where rituals are performed and sabha mandap where devotees gather. This complex has 15 idols. The main idol is the image of a high Badrinath metro, finely sculpted in black stone. It is a symbol of Lord Vishnu seated in a meditative pose.

This Temple has received 1,060,000 visitors.
