TOURISM OF MADURAI MEENAKSHI TEMPLE

Tamil Nadu is the seat of the temple architecture of South India, Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple is the jewel in its crown. The structure of the temple with concentric squares and high walled enclosures is a lesson for students of architecture. The temple has a square shape and a series of concentric streets named after Tamil months surrounding the structure. The entire temple occupies about 45 hectares, with each side having its own entrance. The history of Madurai Meenakshi temple is as old as the history of the city itself.


History:- The history of Madurai dates back thousands of years-almost to the 16th century BC was a key to the Pandya dynasty that ruled the place mall. The temple is said to have been built somewhere around this time Kulashekara Pandyan.

The Meenakshi shrine:-

In the sanctuary, Meenakshi Devi is depicted as fish-eye goddess standing with a parrot and bouquet, love and grace that emanates.




The 'Mandapam' of the temple consists of 985 columns. Each pillar is unique. Some of the pillars are pillars of the music, which produce music when tapped. The special feature is that these pillars are carved from a single block of granite stone. The temple also has an art museum. Contains icons, drawings and photographs dating from 1200 - year - old history of architecture Hindu temple in the south.
